The finished manuscript for A Game of Thrones was 1088 pages long (without the appendices), with the publication following in August 1996. Game of Thrones takes the best of A Song of Ice and Fire, and feeds it directly to our eye holes without any of the cumbersome slog that comes with five books that are each nearly 1,000 pages. To be clear, A Song of Ice and Fire is an amazing, fantastic, seminal series of novels. Game of Thrones, however, is phenomenal.
I agreed the casting was great despite those two black characters who are actually white in the book (Areo Hotah is a stoney Dornishman like Dondarion is-and Saladar Saan is literally a descendent of Valaryian's hence his pale skin and white hair in the books)-and the reason I take issue with Corlys and not them, is because Corlys is a very fundamental character of stature and his blood runs
Aug 05, 2012 05:51PM. The HBO series is terrific, but it necessarily cuts out a lot of content and detail (and additional characters). This isn't said as a criticism, it's just a fact of translating the full "immersion" experience of a novel into thirteen one-hour episodes of a TV series.
