The finished manuscript for A Game of Thrones was 1088 pages long (without the appendices), with the publication following in August 1996. To be clear, A Song of Ice and Fire is an amazing, fantastic, seminal series of novels. Game of Thrones, however, is phenomenal. Aug 05, 2012 05:51PM. The HBO series is terrific, but it necessarily cuts out a lot of content and detail (and additional characters). This isn't said as a criticism, it's just a fact of translating the full "immersion" experience of a novel into thirteen one-hour episodes of a TV series.
