Imma add something for those who say the backwards compatible model isn't needed if you already have a PS2. The BC PS3 is quite possibly the best official way to play PS2 games on a modern television. It does an amazing job of upscaling and smoothing out jaggies that would otherwise look pretty bad if your PS2 was hooked up.PS3 Slim on the other hand is limited to just the console, a thin 'n' floppy manual, power and USB cables and - horror of horrors - a composite video cable and SCART adaptor. Yup, the exact same
Yes, there are a few minor differences between the two. The original PS3 takes up a lot more energy to run than the slim PS3 does. Also the original PS3 has a much larger and noisier fan than the slim PS3. However, there is no difference in the preformance of either version.
this. cost wise it's better in the long run, because ps3 with ps2 chips are ticking timebombs for the most part unless you dedicate some serious effort into it. ps3 slim will play any ps3 game and ps1 game (that you care about) via emulation, with the (so far) best track record of it staying in working condition. During every past PlayStation generation, Sony would subsequently release a “slim” version of the original console, packing the same tech in a much more compact and power-efficient frame. PlayStation 3 even had two such revisions, the PS3 Slim and the PS3 Super Slim. A different fate awaited the PlayStation 4.It is slightly smaller, and you get some additional storage space, those are literally the only differences. If you have the initial PS5 there is no reason to buy the "slim". The slightly bigger internal storage is nice. Other than that, I haven't noticed any difference between the Slim and the original model.
Heat is bad, but the new 360 runs at lower temperatures than the original. The new 360 is also much quieter. When the 360 first came out, a game disk would spin so loudly that it sounded like the 20xx is the only slim revision to have bigger hotter chips than any other slim Ps3. Also NAND consoles have the potential to fail just like NOR consoles. 21xx or higher Slims are better and will ALWAYS run cooler than 20xx for having smaller, more efficient chips. The original slim is still my favourite for the build quality, but the super slim is definitely nice, it's much smaller and lighter than even the slim. I bought the 12GB model and put a 1TB hard drive in it, which was a fairly painless procedure, only thing to note is that if you do buy a 12GB model, Sony don't include the HDD cradle you need Despite slower read/write speeds, the 12GB model performs fairly well - until it comes to deleting data. When we discovered that Sony had opted for an embedded chip rather than an SSD drive, we I got a SuperSlim and sold my original Slim on the local auction site. Whole upgrade cost about $50NZ. I swapped HDD's though, since I had a 7200RPM 750GB drive in the original Slim. I'm very happy with it. It's quieter than the Slim and the Blu-Ray drive seems quicker, but yeah, I haven't done side-by-side tests or anything. What are the differences between the original PS3, the PS3 Slim, and the PS3 Super Slim? The original (or “fat”) PS3 has a glossy, metallic finish and the words “PlayStation 3” printed on the console. Only the original PS3 models (and not all of them) support PS2 backward compatibility.Play (Idle) 200.9 W. 95.4 W. Play (full load) 205.9 W. 100.1 W. Power consumption of PS3 and PS3 Slim in different operation modes. If we look power consumption of competitive consoles of PS3, we can notice that Xbox 360 uses 187 watts during the game mode, while the Nintendo Wii consumes only 40 watts in the normal mode.
